You know, in our culture, food is the ultimate way we show love to our family and friends. Whenever we have a big gathering or just a cozy night in, I always look for something that feels special but doesn't keep me in the kitchen all night away from the conversation. These two pasta dishes are exactly that—rich, savory, and full of that wonderful "umami" flavor we all love. The combination of smoky bacon and tangy tomatoes with a smooth, velvety cream sauce is simply irresistible. Your kids will be asking for seconds, and even the pickiest eaters will find these flavors so satisfying. Let’s get cooking so we can get everyone to the table!
Bacon Tomato Cream Sauce – A Family Favorite
This first recipe is a classic that I’ve tweaked over the years to make sure it is just right. The secret is to let the bacon get really crispy so that the smoky flavor infuses every drop of the cream. I find that using fresh garlic and a little bit of onion makes the base of the sauce so fragrant. It smells so good while it's simmering on the stove that the whole family will be wandering into the kitchen to see when dinner is ready! This sauce is thick enough to coat every single noodle, ensuring a perfect bite every time. Ingredients
- 8 slices of thick-cut bacon, chopped into small pieces
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced (we love our garlic!)
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes or tomato purée
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- A pinch of sugar to balance the acidity
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
- 500g of your favorite pasta (penne or fettuccine works great)
Instructions
- Start by boiling a large pot of salted water. Cook your pasta according to the package directions until it is just al dente. Remember to save a little bit of that starchy pasta water before draining!
- While the pasta is boiling, place your chopped bacon in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the bacon until it is nice and crispy. Remove the bacon bits with a slotted spoon and set them aside on a paper towel, but keep about two tablespoons of that flavorful bacon fat in the pan.
- In the same pan, add your diced onions. Sauté them until they become soft and translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for just another minute until you can really smell that amazing aroma.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and the dried oregano. Add a little pinch of sugar here—it really helps balance out the sourness of the tomatoes. Let this simmer on low heat for about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Slowly stir in the heavy cream. You will see the sauce turn a beautiful, soft orange color. Let it simmer for another 5 minutes until it thickens up slightly.
- Add the crispy bacon back into the sauce. Toss in your cooked pasta and coat everything thoroughly. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of that saved pasta water.
- Season with salt and pepper to your liking. Serve it hot with a sprinkle of fresh basil on top. So good!

Instructions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and salt it generously. Cook the spaghetti until it is tender but still has a bite.
- In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat and add the bacon. Cook until the bacon is golden and crispy. We want that fat to render out because it contains all the flavor!
- Stir in the tomato paste and red pepper flakes. Cook the paste for about 2 minutes; this "toasts" the tomato and makes the flavor much deeper and less raw.
- Add the diced tomatoes and stir well, scraping up any of those tasty brown bits from the bottom of the pan. Let it bubble for a few minutes.
- Turn the heat down to low and pour in the heavy cream. Stir constantly until the sauce is smooth and shimmering.
- Add the grated Parmesan cheese and stir until it has melted completely into the sauce. This makes the texture so luxurious!
- Transfer the cooked pasta directly into the sauce pan. Toss it well so every strand of spaghetti is covered in that creamy tomato goodness.
- Finish with a generous handful of fresh parsley and extra black pepper. Serve it immediately while the cheese is still melty. Your family will definitely thank you for this meal!
